Yaz is always advancing her education in hair to stay up with the latest trends & technology to bring back to her clients. Her #1 priority is and will always be to make her clients feel and look their best!

Hi! I’m Yaz!

Groundedco: Tell us a little bit about yourself and your background?

Yaz: I was born and raised in Florida and grew up in a diverse home. Being half Moroccan and half Colombian was great because food was never boring at our house. Now a days It’s all about my coffee, but when I have free time I enjoy dancing, going on walks when it’s not 100 degrees and spending time with my family.

Groundedco: What inspired your deep interest in becoming a hair stylist and then having your own space?

Yaz: To be honest I never thought I would be a hairstylist. It was something that I thought I would try because of my interest in arts and being able to make someone feel better then when they walked in and that is what sold me.

I decided to open my own Studio because I felt limited energetically and mentally.

That’s the thing with being in a creative field you must be in an environment that is positive because if you are in a negative environment, it will close your creativity off, and you won’t grow.

I felt like I was ready for the change because I knew I could create the environment I’ve always wanted for myself and for my clients. ❤️

Groundedco: How do you try to stay up to date on current hairdressing trends??

Yaz: Every year I always go to a couple hair shows and I also book classes with platform artist to see the latest trends.

Groundedco: What is your favorite way to stay active?

Yaz: I go to hit training or do yoga at home.

Groundedco: Who has impacted you most in your career, and how?

Yaz: Amy is who I started with, and she trained, took me under her wing and taught me everything she knows. She has encouraged me every step of the way of any new task I wanted to take and anytime I have doubted myself she believed in me even in times when I didn’t. For that I’m forever grateful for her and happy to say we have B.U. Hair studio together.

Groundedco: What treatment methods would you recommend if a client came in with hair damaged from excessive dye?

Yaz: I would not dye it anymore and use k18! K18 is literally life changing for damaged hair.

Groundedco: What are your strengths and weaknesses as a stylist??

Yaz: Haircutting I can do it with my eyes close! It is more of a feel for me of what the hair needs. All over platinum is my weakness lifting hair to those levels and having to repeatedly do bleach every 4 weeks was never something that also interest me.

Groundedco: If you could pick any place in the world to be and stay grounded, where would it be and why?

Yaz: Costa Rica because it holds a special place in my heart because I went there for a yoga retreat by myself, and it was completely life changing for me in a spiritual uplifting way. I felt like there were no problems in the world and I felt as light as a feather.

Groundedco: What 3 tips would you share with someone wanting to restore their hair back to health and maintaining it?

Yaz:

  1. First buy a filter for your shower head our water in Florida is not the best.
  2. A good shampoo and conditioner always helps I would recommend using Alterna caviar moisturizing shampoo for thick/ medium hair and using absolute repair by L’Oréal for medium to fine hair. Also, k18 is gold that’s a definite must.
  3. Get a trim regularly.
