Grounded Girl Interview Series Welcomes Franki Noble, Journalist at Her Campus publication in the University of Central Florida. Franki is a freshman at UCF majoring in Journalism with a minor in Sports Business Management! When not writing, she can be seen listening to Gracie Abrams, Taylor Swift, or Harry Styles, reading a Jane Austen novel, or spending time at a Disney Park!
Hi! I’m Franki!
Groundedco: Tell us a little bit about yourself and your background?
Franki: My name is Franki Noble and I’m currently a freshman in college. I was born and raised in Boca Raton, FL and attended West Boca High School! I currently go to the University of Central Florida in Orlando with a major in Journalism and a minor in Sports Business Management with the plan of working for an NHL Team in the future. I currently work for my university’s hockey team as their Social Media Manager and I am a writer for HerCampus.
Groundedco: What inspired your deep interest in becoming a part of the Her Campus publication and undertaking the role as one of their journalists?
Franki: I’ve always loved writing ever since I was a little kid. It was always my favorite thing to do in school. So as soon as I started college, I looked for organizations that would allow for me to write and quickly found HerCampus. The positive, female only staff seemed like such a positive organization to join so I applied as soon as possible.
Groundedco: Who is your favorite journalist and why?
Franki: My favorite journalist would be Rob Sheffield. He is a long time journalist and editor for Rolling Stone Magazine. I admire the way he can write about so many different genres and sound so knowledgeable. His writing style is so perfect, so he is someone I’ve always looked up to.
Groundedco: What is your favorite way to stay active?
Franki: My favorite way to stay active is swimming, especially at the beach. Being born and raised in Florida, I’ve obviously always been surrounded by water so it’s easy to be drawn to it. Since moving to Central Florida, away from the beach, I’ve found myself longing to go more and more.
Groundedco: If you could write about anything, which topic would you choose and why?
Franki: I love writing about things that genuinely interest me. There’s such a wide range of topics I enjoy writing about. If I were to choose a specific topic to write a piece on, I would love to write about how females in the music industry are treated so poorly in comparison to male artists.
Groundedco: Which topics interest you the most when it comes to reading, writing, and research?
Franki: My favorite topics to read, write, and research about include current events, pop culture, and sports. More specifically, gender rights, music and film, and hockey. These are all things that have always piqued my interest, so it is so satisfying to be able to creatively discuss and read about these subjects.
Groundedco: What has been the most challenging story to write and why?
Franki: Honestly, my most challenging story to write was probably an article I wrote about journaling. It is something I’ve always enjoyed doing for as long as I can remember so to put the process into words was complicated for me to figure out. However, once I figured out how to give advice on how to start, the rest came to me easily.
Groundedco: If you could pick any place in the world to be and stay grounded, where would it be and why?
Franki: I would probably choose the beach! I think it is just such a relaxing place to be. I’ve slowly become an outdoors person and I don’t think it could get any better than a nice, easy day at the beach to stay grounded.
Groundedco: What 3 tips would you share with someone who is wanting to start journaling that would be best practice for them?
Franki: I would start with recommending that you start by journaling 3-5 days a week. Getting in a normal habit would allow for the process to feel more natural than a chore. Getting in the grove of it makes the whole thing easier. Next, I would recommend simply recounting the things you want to remember about your day. Just jotting down the memories of a day lets you figure out your journaling style. Lastly, I would say just have fun with it! Make your entries pretty if that’s what you like! Throw colors and stickers all over it, write random little notes you want to remember, or even just write a joke you want to remember. At the end of the day, this is just for you, so make it yours!
