Hi! I’m Laura!

Groundedco: Tell us a little bit about yourself and your background?

Laura: I’m a Board-Certified Health Counselor (AADP), Fitness Professional, Yoga Teacher and Reiki Master & Sound Energy Healer.  But really, I am a fun-loving free spirit, a wife of over 30 years, and a mom of 3, who decided to step out of my comfort zone and reinvent my health, body and life and I have not looked back since.

I remember the day I walked into the grocery store with my 3 little kids, feeling tired, out of shape and overweight wondering if I would ever feel like myself again. I saw a magazine in the store of before and after photos of people who had gone through amazing fitness transformations. I had never seen anything like this before, my brother had hemophilia and we did not play any type of sport in my house growing up. I am still not sure what happened that day, but I DECIDED I was going to transform my body too.

Long story short, I went from frumpy mom to a mom with muscles. Since that day I have won bodybuilding competitions, started a web site and YouTube channel, written a book, been published in fitness magazines and even hosted my own fitness show called The Fit and Fabulous Mom Contest.  It has been a wild and amazing journey and one that I never ever planned on.

Fitness was the catalyst that got me started on this magical journey. There have been many ups and downs along the way. I knew something was still missing, but I could not put my finger on it until…. I started to awaken my spiritual side. The connecting and blending of body movement, mindfulness, meditation, Reiki and sound healing energy have been life changing.

I believe we are all meant to live happy, love fully and feel amazing each day in our bodies. You have the power to create the life you want. When you are in connection with your body, your heart and your mind the life you create will be truly limitless.

Groundedco: What inspired your deep interest in wellness?

Laura: I started my health & wellness journey when I was diagnosed with some pre-cancerous cells. I started researching all sorts of healing modalities and decided I was going to heal myself. I studied, nutrition, raw foods, fasting, detoxing and read just about everything I could get my hands on. This was before the internet was even a way of life. Health and wellness have always been important to me. My older brother was a hemophiliac and I saw a lot of heartache and suffering. I knew from an early age that I wanted to help people and bring light into people’s lives. I truly believe that everyone is here on this earth for a certain purpose. Sometimes we know it right away and sometimes it takes us a lifetime to figure out. Well, I fall right there in the middle I found my purpose and my passion later in life.

Groundedco: What is a customer expected to do and or feel during a Reiki or Sound Bowl Healing session?

Laura: All a person needs to do during a Reiki or Sound Healing session is to rest and relax. Sound therapy is a meditation technique that helps improve mental, physical, and emotional health using crystal and or Himalayan sound bowls. All without any medications so that you can feel and operate at your best and it helps to release stress, worry and overwhelm in the body.

One of the many benefits of sound therapy is stress reduction. We are all extremely busy in our lives between work, families, finances, and all the many things we do every day, that it puts a lot of stress on our minds and bodies. When a body is very stressed and not functioning at its best, this is when injury and diseases can take hold in the body.

Using sound is a gentle and effective way to let the body relax, rest and repair. Sound Therapy helps you to relax and de-stress the body, clear blocked or stuck energy in the body, it can bring you into a relaxed brainwave state so the body can rest & repair. Sound is vibration and vibration is energy, the more energy we have in our bodies the better they function and the better we feel. Vibration is the language of the body.

Vibrations move through the cellular structure, rebalance energy centers and activate the body’s natural healing abilities. Simultaneously, the healing frequencies allow the mind to reach meditative alpha, theta and even delta brain waves states which are where deep healing can take place within the subconscious.

When the heart is open and coherent, we are more easily able to feel love toward ourselves, other people and the beautiful life all around us.

Groundedco: What is your favorite way to stay active?

Laura: Since fitness is kind of my thing, I love staying active in a lot of different ways. My first love is weight training. I always say that weight training makes us stronger not only in our bodies, but in every area of our life.

Other ways I love to keep active are to bike ride, take long walk with my husband on the beach and ground to the energy of the earth. My recent fitness hobby is hula hooping. I love it! It is great exercise, fun, a great way to work on coordination and even a great form of meditation. I am learning all sorts of fun tricks on and off the body. I can even throw the hoop high in the air and catch it. I always have my hula hoops (and a kite) with me in the car so I can practice anytime anywhere.

Groundedco: What is the key to success when communicating with the public during any wellness session?

Laura: The key to success when communicating with the public during any wellness session is holding space for the person and deep listening. Letting the person talk and really, really listening to what they are saying not only hearing their words but noticing their body language, their eyes, the tone of their voice and the energy of their words. Meeting people where they are in their health and wellness journey by being open, compassionate and using deep listening is key to any wellness session.

Groundedco: What is your goal when working with your clients?

Laura: My goal when working with clients is stress reduction and deep relaxation. I help to assist them to release blocked or stuck energy in the body using Reiki, crystal sound bowls & Tibetan sound bowls and even tuning forks. A private session is generally 45 minutes to one hour and all the client needs to do is rest and relax. The body is receptive and responsive to the vibrations of the sounds.

Benefits of A Sound Bath

  • Can lower blood pressure & heart rate
  • Helps to improve memory retention
  • Encourages a stronger immune system function due to increased nitric oxide production
  • Entrains the brain into a theta state for deepened inner exploration

Groundedco: What does your morning routine look like?

Laura: I get up at 6 and the first thing I do is meditate in my studio, anywhere from 15 minutes to 60 minutes depending on my day. Then I read for another 15 to 30 minutes. These are 2 non-negotiable that I do each day. Starting the day with meditation keeps me centered and grounded. Then I will exercise for about 30 minutes. I have a home gym, so I don’t need to go very far which is great. There is a wonderful book by Hal Elrod called “The Miracle Morning” which is a must read. It’s about 6 steps to boost productivity.

I usually have clients in the first half of the day either personal training or sound healing/Reiki session. Now that I am a G-LA (Grandmother) I have the joy of spending the afternoons with my 2 grandsons and love every minute of it.

Groundedco: If you could pick any place in the world to be and stay grounded, where would it be and why?

Laura: I would stay grounded in Costa Rica for sure. I did my yoga teacher training there with my youngest daughter. We stayed in Nosara, Costa Rica. It was a magical place surrounded by monkeys, jungles, fruit all over the place and beautiful stretches beaches. I felt at peace there and would love to spend more time exploring this magical place.

Costa Rica is a “Blue Zone” one of 5 places in the world where the people live the longest and are the healthiest. The people there are so happy and appreciate life to the fullest.

Groundedco: What are 1-5 healthy lifestyle recommendations you want to offer the world?

Laura:

  1. Give yourself the gift of self-love. Make time for yourself to reconnect to things you love doing. It could be as simple as calling a friend you have not spoken to in a long time or taking a long walk-in nature. Dancing, paining, getting your hair or nails done, hula hooping. Making time for yourself and talking to yourself with kind loving words. With softness comes strength and power. Love is the greatest superpower on the planet. Love is light. Love shines light over the darkness.
  2. Make a difference in the world. Make it a habit to do one small thing each day to make a difference in the world. Other people will notice. You don’t need to do it in a flashy or self- serving way – just do it. Before long, the example that you set will begin to be followed by those around you and before you know it, you’re one small drop of helping to make a difference, becomes a wave of people making a difference.
  3. Eat more fresh fruit and veggies. I know, I know you have heard this one many times. But let me ask you a question? Did you know that raw living foods have a very high vibration? This is one of the best ways to recharge our bodies and increase our energy. By getting in high water content fresh fruits & veggies Your body will be doing the happy dance.
